We are getting our normal amount for a given day (during winter) in Henderson, we should accumulate about a TRACE!

It’s kind of funny, since moving to the desert, anytime it rains (doesn’t matter the amount), those of us that call the Henderson Nevada desert home just seem to be so amazed that there is actually water falling from the sky.

Now that we’ve given you a little information on why Henderson Nevada is a great place to live, I’ll try to give you some relocation information.

Tips for Living in the Desert:

IT GETS HOT….SUPRISE, SUPRISE. The desert climate is ideal for active lifestyles, we get, on average, 300 days of sunshine every year. While the highest recorded temperature (at McCaron International) is 117 degrees, we usually will have 7-10 days every year in the 110-114 degree mark. Other than that, on average, Henderson is between 105 and 108 degrees during the “dog days”. Yes, it gets hot, but it’s a dry heat. I know that sounds like the pot calling the kettle black but, it’s true. With humidity levels around 10-15 percent, the heat really isn’t that big of a deal.

IT GETS WINDY! I can’t state this strong enough. During each change of season, we will have winds that will literally knock you over. Good news is that the winds usually stick around for a day or two, then they are gone. But, while it’s windy, secure your patio furniture, be careful opening your car door, and large vehicles (SUV’s, Camper Trailers) can be shoved around on the roads…so be careful.

RAIN…In the desert? While we average very little rain per year, it is not uncommon to pick up most of our average with one storm! The monsoon season definitely is something to be careful with. When the monsoon are around (Aug-Sep), on any given day we can get dumped on with an inch or two in any particular afternoon. Now, when this happens don’t drive around looking for trouble. The grouind in the desert is very hard, and when it rains that much in a short period of time, every single drop of that rain runs downhill. This makes areas that look like small streams, turn into raging rivers without any notice. We take “Flash Floods” here very serious.

The new direction for this real estate blog has been determined, we are going to focus in on the community that we live in, HENDERSON.

We will bring you up to date news about the community. It’s schools, recreation, youth sports leagues and everything in between.

So, why live in Henderson Nevada? Prior to moving hear from San Diego CA in 2001, we did a lot of research on the area. What we found was that Henderson had a lot to offer, 9 years ago! Now, in 2010, the community couldn’t be a better place to live and raise a family.

The community so many different areas of distinction. In the coming months, I will do my best to relay what I know, to you.

So let’s start with the basics. Henderson is known for its exceptional master-planned residential areas and progressive business development. The city of Henderson has become one of the nation’s most dynamic communities. Henderson is a great place to live, work, and play.

Known as a community of small town values with big city efficiencies, the city of Henderson is the largest full-service city in the state of Nevada providing residents all the essential services.

If you are retired, Henderson Nevada has plenty of golf courses to occupy your free time. Henderson has 3 distinct retirement communities, each one is just a little bit different than the next.

If you are still part of the working class, Henderson has a community that will fit your lifestyle. Whether you want a community that is loaded with kids, parks and plenty of things for your kids to do or, maybe you want a community that fits an active lifestyle or, maybe you want a secluded golf community! We have it all here!

Best of all, if you do have children, in Henderson you are able to have the feeling of “not living in sin city”.

I welcome your comments, please let me know if you’d like to hear about something in particular.
